Commissions

I photograph editorial features and brand campaigns, almost always on film. Based in Cape Town, often in Europe, and glad to travel for the right brief.

Most commissions are stories: a place, a person, a thing being made. I photograph them the same way I photograph my own work, on 35mm and medium format film, with enough time to let a scene be itself.

Film does not mean complicated. Scans arrive ready for layout, hand-made darkroom prints are there when a story calls for them, and when a production needs digital alongside film, I bring both.

Common questions
Do you really shoot commissions on film?
Yes. Nearly everything I make is on 35mm or medium format film, and that is usually why clients call. I plan shoots around it, so the look in my portfolio is the look you get. Where a brief needs digital alongside, I shoot both.
Where are you based, and do you travel?
I am based in Cape Town and work between South Africa and Europe through the year. I travel for commissions wherever they take place, and planning a shoot around trips already in the calendar often keeps the costs down.
What does a commission cost?
Every job is quoted on the brief: days, usage, travel and printing all move the number. Send a line about what you have in mind and I will come back with a clear quote, usually within a day or two.
What do you deliver?
High-resolution scans of the selects, ready for print or web. Hand-made darkroom prints can be part of the delivery when a project calls for them, and the negatives stay archived, so a story can be returned to years later.
How do I buy a print?
Open any gallery, find the image, and use the enquire button. Prints are made by hand in the darkroom in editions of five, priced on request by size and edition availability. There is more detail on the prints page.

A line about the brief is enough to start.
